Hypnotherapy for P.T.S.D
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can happen when you either experience or see a traumatic event. As a result you may suffer with symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety. You may also find that you keep thinking excessively about the initial event for days, weeks and even months or years afterwards.
Definition: PTSD – a condition of persistent mental and emotional stress occurring as a result of injury or severe psychological shock, typically involving disturbance of sleep and constant vivid recall of the experience, with dulled responses to others and to the outside world.
In most cases, people who experience something terrifying or traumatic will have a difficult time coping for a while but eventually get back into the rhythm of everyday life and are not affected beyond the short term. They don’t have PTSD. But if your symptoms worsen or last for months or possibly even longer and interfere with the functioning of your everyday life, you may have PTSD.
In recent years we have come to understand PTSD much better. It would appear to be a misplaced memory. Simply put, the memory of the event should have been tucked away nicely in the deep memory of the mind so it could slowly be absorbed and properly processed over time. Instead, it has been pushed into the short term memory so is constantly making its presence felt. It is too powerful and is in the wrong place. This is what causes all the problems related to PTSD.
How does Hypnotherapy for PTSD work?
With hypnotherapy I will help you desensitise the initial event and work on getting it put back into a more suitable part of the mind. This will help relieve the destructive symptoms and start you back onto the path of a more normal and balanced way of experiencing your life.
With my Hypnotherapy treatment I will work to achieve this in a safe and non-traumatising manner. We will work together to first stabilise you emotionally before going on to the treatments, and then finalise by maintaining the progress you have made, empowering you with a number of techniques to help you to live a life free of the disruptive influence of the PTSD memories.
This is not about removing your memories, but reframing them into a more positive and acceptable experience. Working with PTSD takes care and commitment. I will only ever work at a pace that makes change suitable to you and alongside your existing health care providers, and with the agreement of a consenting letter sent to your GP.
Hypnotherapy is extremely effective in helping PTSD sufferers take back control of their lives. It is the non-traumatic way in which the changes are made that I feel make it so much better and faster than some more traditional phsychotherapeutic approaches.
Before any Hypnotherapy treatment for PTSD can take place, you must consult your GP and have an initial assessment with me (which is simply an informal chat) and I can explain things in much more depth with you. This will be free and may take up to an hour.
Because PTSD is so specific to you as an individual, the circumstance, length of time and severity are all important factors which means that a definitive course of treatment is hard to define. We will work together to achieve realistic goals in an appropriate time frame (four to six sessions is an average for mild symptoms). I can make no guaranties but many of my clients report a measurable improvement after the first session. My promise is that I will put 100% effort into helping you achieve your goals and getting you back to the person you want to be.
The first step is to arrange a FREE, initial assessment to find out how Hypnotherapy can specifically help you to achieve your goals.
Treatment sessions via Zoom cost £45 each for an hour.
